Two individuals suspected of participating in an armed attack on a Cash Point operator were fatally shot by the National Police on Monday, September 14. The two confrontations occurred in 67 Ha Vatobe and Trano Dimy Ampangabe, two neighborhoods in the 4th district of the urban municipality of Antananarivo. The incident began around 9:30 a.m. in Anosibe Ambilanibe. A woman working as a Cash Point operator was targeted by armed individuals carrying a pistol and knives. The perpetrators reportedly ambushed her in an alley as she left her home to transport money intended to supply two Cash Point locations. The victim was wounded with a blade during the attack. The assailants seized two bags containing money and mobile phones before fleeing. Alerted, the National Police immediately deployed elements from the Criminal Brigade (BC), with support from the Anti-Gang Service (SAG). A search and pursuit operation was immediately launched. Intelligence gathered from a local source allowed police to locate two suspects in 67 Ha Vatobe. They were reportedly attempting to sell phones of questionable origin. BC and SAG officers went to the scene to apprehend them. Upon seeing the police, the two suspects allegedly fled while opening fire. Law enforcement returned fire in self-defense. One of the two men was fatally shot. A pistol and five 7.65mm ammunition rounds were found on him. Initial findings identified him as one of the presumed participants in the morning attack. The pursuit continued to find his companion, who managed to escape. Around 9:30 p.m., the latter reportedly encountered police again in the Trano Dimy Ampangabe sector, still in the 4th district. The suspect allegedly opened fire as soon as he saw law enforcement, triggering another exchange of gunfire. Hit by bullets, he did not survive. A homemade rifle and seven 12-caliber cartridges were found in his possession. Searches continue to locate any other group members still at large. The investigation has been entrusted to the Criminal Brigade to establish the exact circumstances of the facts and the responsibilities of each party.
