Mobile Money: Task Force to Speed Up Complaint Processing
Complaints related to Mobile Money services should now benefit from more coordinated monitoring. A Task Force bringing together the various institutions concerned will be established to strengthen consumer protection and accelerate complaint processing, according to authorities. Having become an essential tool in daily transactions, Mobile Money allows users to make payments, transfers, or store electronic money directly from their phone. Its growing use is accompanied, however, by several difficulties reported by consumers. Among the most frequently cited cases are money losses, failed transactions, or delays deemed too long in resolving incidents. Responsibilities. According to information, the Authority for the Regulation of Communication Technologies (ARTEC) regularly receives complaints related to Mobile Money. Its field of competence, however, mainly concerns telecommunications and communication services. The supervision of actors operating in Mobile Money services falls, for its part, under the Banking and Financial Supervision Commission (CSBF). The future Task Force should thus make it possible to better coordinate the interventions of the different entities concerned and encourage operators to improve their complaint handling systems. The Ministry of Economy and Finance will notably contribute to strengthening the regulatory framework and coordination between the institutions involved. The stated objective is to guarantee better protection for users, while making incident processing faster and more efficient.
