Renovation work has been completed at the Filao leisure space, located between the Central Bank and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry headquarters, since February. The site is managed by the Mahajanga municipality. A 3x3 basketball court has been built and vendor stalls for grilled meat skewers have been rehabilitated. Inflatable ball games and other inflatable water activities, as well as rides, are also available on site. An unannounced inspection was carried out this weekend by the Mahajanga municipal team, comprising the 2nd vice-president of the special delegation of Mahajanga I municipality, technicians, and the VPAN of Mahajanga. The newly constructed basketball court has been damaged and converted into a urinal and toilet facility. Homeless or displaced children have soiled the infrastructure, despite no activities having been organized there yet. Additionally, these individuals have occupied the inflatable attractions, including slides and rides, where they sleep at night. The darkness caused by the lack of lighting at this location facilitates this situation. Security incidents around the seafront are frequent due to this lack of light and especially the absence of electricity in this area. "The Mahajanga municipality will take measures and enforce the law to protect public property and maintain order. Residents are invited to remain calm and trust the sustainable solutions proposed by the authorities," declared a municipal official. The seafront is one of the most visited tourist sites by visitors during this holiday period. The arrangement of the grilled meat vendor area is ongoing.
