Access to legal identity remains a challenge for part of the population. Approximately 20% of citizens are still not registered in the civil registry. The situation was highlighted yesterday during the launch of the National Identity Day at the Carlton Anosy Hotel. Held under the theme "Ny fahiziako, aloka tsy mahasaraka ahy", the celebration featured a high-level meeting dedicated to managing the civil registry system. Discussions focused on ways to improve registration and facilitate access to documents proving identity. With support from its partners, the State plans to continue efforts to strengthen the civil registry system. Among priorities is the development of biometric registration at the municipal level. Actions should also be taken with municipal services responsible for issuing civil status documents, to simplify procedures and bring these services closer to the population. Civil registration thus remains a major issue in accessing legal identity. For people lacking civil status documents, certain administrative procedures can become more complex. Reducing this 20% proportion represents an important challenge in ensuring everyone has access to a legally recognized identity.
