Spare parts have arrived for the repair of the combustion turbine (TAC 1) at Ambohimanambola. With a capacity of 15 to 18 MW, the return to service of TAC 1 at Ambohimanambola should absorb a large portion of the electricity deficit still recorded during peak hours on the Antananarivo interconnected network, currently estimated at around 25 MW. The electricity production deficit on the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA) should see further reduction with the return of TAC 1 at Ambohimanambola. The spare parts needed to repair this combustion turbine, imported from Dubai, arrived late Sunday night after being awaited for several days. Jirama technicians immediately proceeded with their installation to restore the unit to operation as quickly as possible. According to Manda Ny Aina Nomena, deputy general director in charge of electricity production at the state company, work was scheduled to be completed yesterday afternoon. TAC 1 was thus expected to strengthen RIA production during evening peak hours. An official delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH) visited the Ambohimanambola site yesterday evening. This visit allowed officials to directly observe the progress of operations and measures taken for the turbine's return to service.

At Full Capacity

With a power output between 15 MW and 18 MW, TAC 1 should help resolve a large portion of the production deficit still recorded by Jirama. This currently stands at around 25 MW during peak hours. Its return to the network should directly contribute to further reducing rolling blackouts in Antananarivo and surrounding areas. The situation has already improved significantly compared to previous years, with the gap between available production and demand greatly reduced thanks to various measures implemented. However, the challenge extends beyond production. Constraints persist in electricity transport and distribution due to aging and insufficient infrastructure. Some RIA installations are reportedly being used at up to 200% of their initial capacity to meet demand. Sustainable improvement in supply will therefore also require strengthening and modernizing the electrical network.
