An opportunity is emerging for cinema in the southern part of the island. The call for entries for the Indian Ocean Film Festival on the Toliara Sea continues for the first edition of its training and creation workshop, called Atimo Cine Lab. Set to take place in the heart of Toliara, this ambitious event is already positioning itself as an essential incubator for emerging cinema in Madagascar. For this inaugural edition, organizers have chosen to emphasize inclusivity and regional representation. The call is exclusively reserved for young people aged 18 and over, as well as women from and residing in the Grand South regions of Madagascar and surrounding areas. The stated objective is clear: to stimulate local artistic creation, encourage civic expression through imagery, and offer a platform for technical and narrative learning to profiles often distant from traditional film circuits. All artistic sensibilities are invited to express themselves, as the workshop is open to three major film genres: fiction, documentary, and animation. Aspiring filmmakers and screenwriters have until June 30, 2026 to submit their applications. With rigorous selection expected, each candidate must send a complete file by email comprising an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a detailed motivation letter, and an original short film idea lasting approximately 10 minutes, presented as an artistic portfolio.
