A 37-year-old man died from knife wounds during the night of September 11-12 in Manakambahiny, a rural commune in Ambohimangakely, Antananarivo-Avaradrano district. Two others were injured in a violent brawl that erupted during a Famadihana ceremony. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the fokontany of Ambohimpiainana. A dispute broke out between several young men from Ambohipiraisana and a man from Anjepy who was attending the ceremony. According to initial information gathered by gendarmes, the quarrel stemmed from a dispute over a dance partner, compounded by alcohol consumption among those involved. The argument quickly escalated into a brawl. During the confrontation, three people were stabbed. A 37-year-old driver from Anjepy, critically wounded in the abdomen, was evacuated to Ambohimangakely Regional Hospital. The injury, characterized by abdominal perforation and significant intestinal protrusion, was particularly severe. The victim died shortly after admission. Two other men, aged 25 and 36 from Manakambahiny, were also injured. The first received stab wounds to the abdomen and hand, while the second was struck in the abdomen. Both received hospital care. Nine arrests. Alerted at 3 a.m. by a hospital doctor, gendarmes arrived at the scene. A team of eight gendarmes, led by the commander of Ambohimangakely's advanced post, conducted investigations at the brawl location. Nine young men, all from Ambohipiraisana, were arrested as part of the inquiry. The knife used in the assault was not recovered. According to investigators, it was lost after the incident. Following medical and gendarme findings, the victim's body was released to his family for funeral rites. The nine arrested remain at investigators' disposal. The investigation continues to establish the exact sequence of events and determine individual responsibilities. The arrested individuals will be presented to justice upon completion of proceedings.
