Couple arrested for sending underage child to work
A family complaint was filed at Analavory police station on June 11 following the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy since June 9. An investigation by law enforcement revealed that a couple living in the area was responsible for the child's disappearance. They had sent the boy to another region in the south of the island to work. After the investigation, the case was referred to Antananarivo on June 24, and the couple was charged with human trafficking. This case reflects a recurring problem in Madagascar: the exploitation of underage children. Domestic workers frequently encounter underage children throughout the country. Laws exist to regulate child labor in Madagascar. Citizens are encouraged to report cases of child exploitation when encountered.
