What do transporters want? They are given a new, clean, well-equipped, organized bus station worthy of passengers, yet they refuse to leave the chaos of Fasan'ny Karana, claiming it's more convenient for them and their clients. They are pulling out all the stops to persuade the Ministry of Transport not to implement this decision. They argue that Amoronankona station is too far from the city and inconvenient for travelers given the scarcity of public transport on this route. An argument refuted by the Ministry of Transport with the introduction of shuttle services and increased urban train frequency. The fact is that in the early 2000s, the same taxi-brousses did not object when they were sent into exile at Fasan'ny Karana after leaving Anosibe following market rehabilitation. Yet there were not as many buses passing through that location back then. It was the existence of the parking lot that attracted transporters like all the small businesses around it. Fasan'ny Karana has thus become the image of anarchy, indiscipline, unsanitary conditions, all kinds of trafficking and the kingdom of thieves... Reasons enough necessitating its relocation where baggage snatchers will no longer be able to rob unfortunate travelers. Moreover, the parking lot's existence has created an entire economy around it. Worse, completely illegal permanent structures have been erected across the entire dike supposed to protect the capital from flooding. While the western part of the dike since Anosizato bridge has been reinforced by the Produir project, the Fasan'ny Karana side is weakened by illegal constructions lining the parking lot facade. Relocating the parking lot will undoubtedly end the small businesses flourishing inside and outside the station. Politics has become involved to the point of putting another ministry at odds with the Ministry of Transport. Contradictory decisions have marked the issue. But the Ministry of Transport has remained inflexible against the rebellion orchestrated by so-called 'defenders of user rights'. This is the same determination that officials from other departments or local authorities must show against the maneuvers of those pulling the Refoundation backward. Deplorable. Sylvain Ranjalahy
