A temporary roundabout has been created opposite the entrance to Mahamasina gymnasium. New traffic rules are being applied in Mahamasina. Traffic on Mahatma Gandhi Avenue has been converted to two-way on the section between the Mahamasina Technical and Professional High School (LTP) and Sainte-Famille School. This measure was taken due to the extension of road sections closed in Mahamasina, as part of wastewater pipe rehabilitation work under the Integrated Sanitation Program for Antananarivo (PIAA2), led by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
Alternative Route
This modification offers an alternative for motorists. Drivers coming from Ampahibe and wishing to reach Tsimbazaza no longer need to detour through Anosy. They can directly use the route passing in front of Saint-Joseph Catholic Church in Mahamasina, Gastronomie Pizza, Tometal, to reach Ankadilàlana. The road section in front of Antanimbarinandriana General Education College (CEG) becomes single-lane. Vehicles coming from Gerb'Or or Ankadilàlana can also use this route to go towards Tometal and Sainte-Famille. "A roundabout has been installed at Ankadilàlana to ease traffic in this area, especially during this school year. Be very careful on this road, keep well to the right, as it is a two-way road," said Michel Olivier Randrianarivony, mission chief of Inframad, a Malagasy engineering and infrastructure consulting company, during the simulation of the new traffic flow on Saturday.
This new traffic plan is temporary. The Urban Municipality of Antananarivo warns that further road closures and disruptions are expected as pipe replacement work progresses.
