Air Madagascar's return takes shape in aviation sector
Four months after Rado Rabarilala took over as general director of Madagascar Airlines, several changes are beginning to materialize. The national airline is advancing in its restructuring process with the return of the Air Madagascar brand by the end of October in sight. A new milestone was reached with the reopening of the Analakely commercial office on Friday, in the heart of Antananarivo. Located at 17 Independence Avenue, this office allows the company to regain a physical presence in a strategic sector of the capital. Its reopening follows that of Mahajanga, which became operational on July 10. For management, these locations should help restore a more direct link with travelers, alongside the development of digital services. The most important challenge remains financial. Madagascar Airlines is currently undergoing judicial restructuring. In this context, the State decided to cancel the claims it held on Air Madagascar. These reportedly represent about half of total debt valued at 100 million. This relief constitutes significant progress for a company that must still durably stabilize its situation. Another development viewed as encouraging by management: the company's new business plan is now presented as solid enough to interest financiers. This prospect could facilitate the search for resources needed to continue the company's transformation. The return of the Air Madagascar name should therefore not constitute a simple change in commercial identity. Management wants to accompany this rebirth with an overhaul of the company's operations, with efforts focused on governance, financial management, operations and commercial strategy. The stated ambition is to rebuild a reliable national airline capable of sustainably regaining traveler confidence. The airline network should also evolve. After resuming service to Moroni, several destinations are in the pipeline. Réunion, Marseille, Bangkok and China are among the routes whose return is gradually being prepared. This revival must nevertheless remain controlled to adapt the company's capacity to its means. Fleet reinforcement is also part of the next steps, with the arrival of a new aircraft announced. Between financial stabilization, commercial recovery and network development, the coming months will be decisive in materializing Air Madagascar's return.
