A Mauritian national wanted for the murder of his Malagasy wife in Mananara Avaratra was shot dead by national police forces during his arrest on Saturday. The man, who had fled after the crime, allegedly put up violent resistance, forcing officers to use their weapons. The tragedy occurred early Saturday morning around 1 a.m. at the fokontany of Antanambao in the urban commune of Mananara Avaratra. According to initial investigation findings, the suspect attacked his wife with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds to her hands and head. Alerted by the victim's screams, neighbors quickly intervened and rushed her to the hospital. Despite medical care, the woman succumbed to the severity of her injuries. After committing the crime, the suspect fled. Through rapidly obtained intelligence, police located him a few hours later. During his arrest, he allegedly mounted particularly violent resistance, forcing law enforcement to open fire to neutralize his aggression. He was fatally wounded. Police also discovered a quantity of narcotics among the suspect's personal belongings. According to gathered information, he was known for repeated acts of violence against his wife. An investigation is underway to shed full light on the circumstances of this domestic tragedy that ended in the death of both parties.
