The third phase of the 'Miatrika' program was launched on Friday at the Calypso hotel in Toamasina, a joint initiative of PIC (Integrated Growth Poles) and FMFP (Malagasy Professional Training Fund), in partnership with the eastern Madagascar region, international banks, and the Malagasy government, spanning from Alanjirofo to Atsimo-atsinanana region. Two previous phases of 'Miatrika' had already been implemented to revitalize the economy following Covid, utilizing international financing. The third phase now brings $1.7 billion in funding within the PIC program. In this third phase, 4,500 workers from hotels, restaurants, media outlets, and agricultural enterprises will receive training. The PIC had previously trained 23,000 workers through the first two phases of 'Miatrika'. Launched on September 11, this third phase will train 4,500 workers over 18 months to acquire relevant skills. Communes reaching up to 30 years old will benefit from the program, extending from Toamasina to Vangaindrano, covering five regions: Alanjirofo, Atsinanana, Vatovavy-Fitovinany, and Atsimo-atsinanana. Minister of Labor and Handicrafts Lily Rafaralahy Vololoniaina announced in Toamasina that the rehabilitation and expansion of the 'Pangalana' port will soon begin, as it will serve as a hub for Malagasy government workers abroad, building on existing agreements between Madagascar, Canada, and Dubai. The port development represents significant economic opportunity for the country, allowing Madagascar to export its products internationally during this period of major infrastructure investment.
