A powerful message sent to those in power. Milavonjy Philobert, vice-president representing the opposition in the National Assembly, staged a true show of force in his Ambovombe stronghold. As part of independence day celebrations, the MAPAR elected official organized a popular rally in his constituency. The capital of the Androy region was packed for the occasion. All of Ambovombe renewed its support for Milavonjy, who also serves as national president of the Association of Androy Natives. The sole deputy still daring to publicly display his loyalty and conviction to the Volomboasary clan, the Ambovombe deputy had, in a sense, thrown down a challenge to those holding power under the Refoundation regime. Just weeks ago, specifically on June 12 and 13, the president of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, inaugurated with great fanfare the RN13 connecting Ambovombe and Taolagnaro. A presidential visit that nonetheless did not generate the same enthusiasm, even though the current head of state is also a native of the South. It is also worth noting that many inhabitants of the Grand South are well aware that the rehabilitation of RN13 is a project from the former Andry Rajoelina regime. Everyone knows that in eight months, it is impossible to complete such a project. Yet, in their talking points during this inauguration ceremony, the current holders of power presented themselves as the authors of this major infrastructure achievement. In any case, this strong mobilization of the Androy population behind Ambovombe deputy Milavonjy Philobert constitutes, in a sense, a form of distant duel between IRMAR and Fanavaozana. For now, the Refoundation regime cannot claim to have won over the South to its cause.
