Attempted prison arson, escape plot for an inmate, complicity and disturbance of order and security within a penitentiary facility. These are among the charges weighing against seven people implicated in this case. The noose is tightening around Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy. Indeed, in a video released yesterday on the Justice Ministry's page, the Republic's Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Antananarivo, Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina, confirmed the existence of a project aimed at setting fire to and causing an explosion at the Tsiafahy prison. This senior justice official thus confirms information that leaked last week. The ultimate objective of this attempt was to carry out the escape of the former Director of the Bureau of Grievances to the Presidency of the Refoundation of the Republic of Madagascar, incarcerated in this high-security prison since April 16. According to the Prosecutor, damning evidence was discovered in his cell during a search carried out on Sunday, August 23. The search uncovered a mobile phone carefully hidden in his room. It is well known that phones are prohibited in prison. Furthermore, according to Prosecutor Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina, compromising discussions concerning an escape plan were found there. Notably voice messages and correspondence with several people outside the prison, including a woman residing abroad. The latter took charge of raising 4,000 euros to finance the escape project. Moreover, other individuals also prepared to ensure the prisoner's exfiltration after the fire. Medical test falsification is also at issue. Seven individuals are implicated in this case. They were presented before the Investigating Judge on Tuesday, September 8. Among them is a doctor close to Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy who allegedly advised him to consume large quantities of sugar before a blood test to falsify the results. After referral, this doctor was placed in custody. Prosecutor Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina also suggested that other suspects believed to be involved in this case are currently being actively sought and are subject to arrest warrants. The Regional Director of Prison Administration in Analamanga, Chief Inspector Olivier Ranaivoson, confirmed that Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy was placed in a disciplinary cell following his actions contrary to prison regulations. At the rate things are going, the former Director to the Presidency risks an extended stay at Tsiafahy.
