Not being recognized as a citizen by any state. This is the situation faced by stateless persons. Some have lived in a country their entire lives without obtaining nationality or the necessary documents to prove their identity. This situation can complicate access to several rights. Formal employment, healthcare, and higher education become more difficult when a person lacks official papers. The absence of documents can thus create lasting precarity. The problem also affects rural areas. Some people do not know their exact place of origin or have no documents to establish it. The question of statelessness had already been addressed at the legislative level. A bill proposal was notably put forward in 2021. The determination of nationality is based on several criteria, including the right of blood. Behind the lack of papers lies a broader question: that of social inclusion and access to rights. Living in a country without being recognized as a national of any state can have concrete consequences throughout one's life. These realities were addressed during the screening of the film "Tsimanatsata," organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung and Focus Development Association. The meeting raised awareness about statelessness and the difficulties experienced by stateless persons.
