Accompanied by his wife, the Malagasy head of state is beginning a European tour that will also take him to Belgium, with several diplomatic meetings on his agenda. This visit begins with Madagascar's participation in the International Space Summit, organized in Paris on September 9 and 10. Some 120 countries have been invited to participate in this international meeting, including Madagascar. But it is above all a possible new meeting with Emmanuel Macron that is drawing attention. According to the announced schedule, a restricted meeting between Michaël Randrianirina and the French president could take place on Thursday, September 10. The discussions should notably focus on relations between Madagascar and France as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. After Paris, Michaël Randrianirina is heading to Belgium, where other high-level meetings are planned. The president of the Refondation is notably scheduled to meet with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. This Belgian stage should allow both parties to review their cooperation and examine new partnership opportunities in various sectors. The Malagasy president is also scheduled to meet with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission. This meeting should be devoted to relations between Madagascar and the European Union, with several concrete issues on the table. Energy, road networks and infrastructure are among the sectors in which Madagascar wishes to develop further partnerships. Preparations for the upcoming Malagasy elections should also play an important role in discussions with European officials. Through this tour between Paris and Brussels, Malagasy authorities are seeking to give new momentum to the country's relations with its European partners.
