A 31-year-old mason was arrested on Monday, September 7 at around 6:40 a.m. in Atsinanana'ny Gara, in the municipality of Tsiroanomandidy Fihaonana, following the discovery of a homemade rifle at his residence. Alerted by telephone about the presence of this weapon in the dwelling, officers from the intervention forces unit of the Bongolava National Police immediately proceeded to the scene. A search of the premises uncovered a homemade rifle containing no ammunition. The man was taken to Tsiroanomandidy police station for questioning about the origin and possession of the weapon. According to initial information gathered, the suspect had arrived in the Atsinanana'ny Gara neighborhood approximately one week before his arrest. He was renting a house there with his wife and children. Investigation ongoing. The discovery of this weapon is part of efforts to combat insecurity in the Tsiroanomandidy district. National Police investigators are continuing their investigation to determine notably the origin of the homemade rifle and any possible circumstances of its use. At this stage, no conclusions can be drawn regarding any involvement of the man in any offense other than the facts currently under investigation.
