Rural areas will be major beneficiaries of the project. A historic fundraising of 27 million euros marks the International Finance Corporation (IFC) entry into WeLight's capital. A crucial opportunity for Madagascar, a major beneficiary of this deployment. It is a strategic turning point for energy access in sub-Saharan Africa. WeLight, the leader in rural electrification, has just formalized the IFC's entry into its capital, a subsidiary of the World Bank. This alliance is materialized through a global investment of 27 million euros, supported by historical shareholders AXIAN, Sagemcom and Norfund. While this fund injection aims to open new markets in Nigeria and the DRC, it will above all drive Madagascar's energy transformation. Opening Up Born on the Great Island in 2018, under the impetus notably of the AXIAN group, WeLight already operates an essential share of its current 190 solar mini-grids there. For structurally isolated rural areas cut off from national electricity networks, the announced strengthening of local operations is a promise of immediate development. Clean and affordable electricity deployed on a large scale will act as a powerful lever for inclusion. On the ground, it will modernize remote health centers, improve education, secure villages and boost local entrepreneurship through productive energy.
