Five armed men arrived in the town of Amparihibara, in Mandoto district. Four people were kidnapped and Remiandry, the head of the prison, was killed. The abductors took the kidnapped individuals and five cattle. On the way, they released the people but kept the cattle. They sent a message to the authorities saying they could not be caught and the cattle would be kept as "findra-vala," meaning they would not be slaughtered but used to increase their herd. The criminals clearly stated they were motivated by ransom demands, cattle theft, and banditry. It appears there are disputes between individuals behind this raid, which occurred early Monday morning around six o'clock. The town was attacked at dawn. The investigation into the criminals is ongoing, led by police from Beakanga. The weapons used were MAS 36 rifles, still widely used by some security forces. Residents in the area are alarmed after witnessing this early morning attack. Banditry continues to plague many regions of the island.
