Hydroelectric production at Andekaleka is expected to reach 114 MW again thanks to artificial rainfall operations conducted this week. This improvement comes as the Antananarivo Interconnected Network (RIA) faces a production deficit that has forced Jirama to implement scheduled power cuts. The main cause is the dry season, which significantly reduces water inflows feeding hydroelectric plants. To reverse the trend, artificial rainfall operations have been launched and are set to continue for three days. The goal is to increase available flow at Andekaleka and consequently boost production injected into the RIA. However, artificial rain is just one lever being activated. According to measures presented by Jirama and the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons, equipment to replace defective parts of the 18 MW TAC 1 at Ambohimanambola is also expected. A new 3.4 MW power plant, developed with Malagasy company MADO, is set to begin operations at Ambohimanambola. Solar production will also be strengthened, with an initial 5 MWc tranche from the 15 MWc Moramanga plant. In the medium term, new units of 7 MW and 13.2 MW are to be acquired, while additional solar capacity will be progressively integrated. These measures should improve production by week's end, though securing sustainable RIA supply will require further investments.
