In Mahajanga, coral reefs, pillars of marine biodiversity and natural coastal protectors, are under threat. To raise awareness among young people about their importance, the Tsiky Association launched the Récif'Art project in September 2024, combining science, art, and Francophone cooperation. Every Wednesday afternoon, 90 students from grades 5-6 at EPP Belinta received training on marine life and environmental protection practices. Guided by their teachers and the Alliance Française, the children then shared their message with other primary schools in Antsanitia and Fiarovana. In total, over 1,500 students were reached. The project's highlight was the Karang performance, a theatrical piece created and performed by the students themselves, transformed into true ocean ambassadors. "We observed a very positive impact on their personal development," notes Galo Natacha Lalaina, educational project coordinator. Funded by the Réunion Region in partnership with IRD, AMOPA, and ALEFPA, Récif'Art demonstrates how artistic and scientific education can become a powerful tool for ocean preservation and the future of coastal communities.
