The government is accelerating measures to improve electricity supply in Antsiranana. A delegation led by the Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Radonirina Lucas Rabearimanga, arrived on Saturday, June 27, 2026 to closely monitor solutions implemented to address difficulties faced by users. It includes specialized technicians and the Deputy General Director of Jirama responsible for electricity production, Manda Ny Aina Nomena. Among immediate responses is the gradual commissioning of eleven new Jirama generators already delivered to Antsiranana. Five are currently operating and producing 4 MW. Technicians are also installing new transformers to strengthen the network. In parallel, collaboration between SECREN and Jirama is underway to develop a site for additional generators, with full site security measures. The stated objective is to strengthen Jirama's autonomy in supplying electricity to the city. The delegation also visited the private ENELEC power plant, the main local supplier. Its production, expected at 18 MW, was limited to 3 MW. The operator committed to carrying out urgent repairs to reach 9 MW and cover peak demand, estimated at 11.2 MW.
