A 12-year-old girl abducted by armed bandits has been safely freed following intervention by law enforcement. The incident occurred on September 6 in the fokontany of Ambodimanga, a rural commune in Ankaranana district, Soavinandriana. According to reports, several armed individuals broke into a family home. The criminals were searching for money from a recent bean sale. Acting on faulty intelligence, they expected to find a substantial sum in the house. Finding no cash, they decided to kidnap the 12-year-old girl instead. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 8 million ariary for her release. Alerted, the gendarmerie immediately launched an operation under orders from the Miarinarivo gendarmerie grouping commander. The deputy commander of the Itasy regional gendarmerie grouping and the Miarinarivo regional grouping commander led multiple teams to the scene. Gendarmes from Soavinandriana and Analavory brigades, supported by Malagasy army personnel, participated in the search. Investigation and intelligence cross-referencing led authorities to locate the kidnappers in an area called Antanambao, in the fokontany of Ambatofolaka, rural commune of Alatsinainikely. The girl was being held hostage there. To surprise the abductors, law enforcement advanced discreetly through the village and rocky terrain. Some officers wore uniforms while others dressed in civilian clothes. Seeing the security forces and fearing encirclement, the kidnappers immediately released their hostage and fled in different directions. The girl was found safe and unharmed with no health issues. No ransom was paid. After medical examination, she was returned to her parents. Security forces continue searching to identify, locate, and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. Operations remain ongoing to capture the fugitives.
