The search for Maminirina Jean Eddy, known by the alias "Eddy bois de rose", has been reopened. After being sought for five years, he was arrested in 2019 and sentenced at Tsiafahy for trafficking in precious wood and money laundering. He had filed an appeal in 2021 and received an increased prison sentence. Now he is being sought again, this time not for precious wood, but for drug trafficking. Authorities responsible for environmental protection announced the search on Monday within the country for this reason. Questions remain about how Eddy Maminirina managed to escape prison, as according to available information, his sentence had not yet been completed. It had even been increased by two years following the appeal. According to reports, he is among those who escaped prison during the period when the government changed, with some cases described as politically motivated. However, this case involves a person implicated in environmental trafficking matters and faced severe penalties. It is particularly troubling that after leaving precious wood trafficking, he entered drug trafficking. This suggests he still has strong networks behind him. However, the government has changed and the ministry responsible for environmental protection did not pursue his case.
