On Monday, September 7, fifty Chinese nationals convicted by the Anti-Corruption Unit to sentences ranging from two to ten years in prison for online fraud were transferred to their country of origin. The operation, conducted from Avaradrano prison, was organized in cooperation with Interpol and the Chinese embassy, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice and with the support of the Ministry of Public Security. After a stopover in Addis Ababa, the convicted individuals were to continue their journey to China, where they will complete their sentences. The perpetrators were sentenced to two to five years in prison and the network leaders to five to ten years, according to information provided. This procedure is part of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, ratified by Madagascar in 2005. It represents a first in the fight against digital fraud.
