SHENZHEN, September 5 (Xinhua) — The Asia-Pacific Media Forum opened Saturday in Shenzhen, in China's Guangdong province (south), under the theme "Paving the Way for Shared Prosperity for the Asia-Pacific Community: Media Consensus and Action." Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the Information Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the forum and delivered the opening address. Huang Kunming, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and secretary of the CPC Committee for Guangdong province, also attended and spoke at the forum. Guests emphasized that this year marked the "Year of China" for APEC, during which China will host the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. They are confident that with support from all parties, this meeting will yield fruitful results and bring Asia-Pacific cooperation to new heights. According to guests, development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region depend on active media participation. Media must share narratives of openness and integration, ensure comprehensive coverage of the region's progress and achievements across various fields, and help create a favorable public opinion climate for the region's open development. The forum is co-organized by the Information Department of the CPC Central Committee, Xinhua news agency, and the Guangdong provincial government, and organized by the Shenzhen municipal government. More than 400 representatives from some 40 countries and regions, as well as UN agencies and international organizations, attended the event. During the opening ceremony, 16 founding Chinese and foreign organizations jointly established the Organizing Committee of the Asia-Pacific Media Partnership Program.
