No one escaped the frustration of using the national road number two. The gridlock lasted not just an hour, not even two days, but rather several consecutive days. This is what caused many vehicles to get stuck on RN2 on Sunday night. Starting from seven in the evening, traffic came to a standstill at Mandraka, at the large curve shaped like the letter S. Vehicles going up kept going up. Those going down kept going down. Many trucks lined the roadside. As a result of all this, traffic was completely paralyzed. But the real issue behind all this was the presence of road construction work in a section unknown to the public. Most people only discovered it and could do nothing but endure it. Those unfamiliar with alternative routes and arriving later still tried to enter, whether by motorcycle or car. This completely worsened the road situation and made movement nearly impossible. Even after construction ended, it remained difficult for many vehicles and motorcycles to leave the area due to the completely congested road and limited space for maneuvers. Such situations frequently occur on RN2. Trucks often break down when the road opens, especially during long rainy periods. There are also various traffic accidents that claim many lives. Whenever one of these incidents occurs, RN2 immediately becomes gridlocked. It is a national road that the economy depends on, as most goods distributed throughout the country pass through the port of Toamasina. Any disruption there has major economic consequences. The solution might be to establish a special task force that resolves problems whenever they arise.
