An armed attack sparked panic during the night of Saturday to Sunday in the commune of Ambatomiady, Antanifotsy district. Three armed individuals burst into the fokontany of Ambatolampikely on Saturday evening, September 5, 2026, around 8:30 p.m. According to initial information gathered on site, the perpetrators arrived as a famadihana ceremony was ending. They first entered an outbuilding in a courtyard where three mobile phones were charging. The devices were taken. The three individuals then allegedly broke into another house but took nothing. As confusion reigned in the courtyard, a 35-year-old man emerged from his home. The attackers allegedly ordered him to hand over the proceeds from "Mpihira gasy" performances, amounting to 3.5 million ariary. Three wounded. During the attack, the bandits allegedly fired three shots. No witness could precisely identify the weapon used due to darkness. In the confusion and confrontations that followed, three people were injured. Two of them, a 39-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, received treatment at CSB I in Ambatolampikely. A third injured person, aged 35, requiring more extensive care, was evacuated to a clinic in Ambohibary. The alarm was only raised the following morning when the mayor of Ambatomiady informed local gendarmes of the attack. Gendarmes from Ambatomiady's fixed post, accompanied by an officer under the territorial brigade commander, went to the scene to conduct initial investigations. Searches continue to identify and locate those responsible for the attack.
