Since the president of the Refoundation of the Malagasy Republic announced that Fridays are dedicated to Malagasy traditional dress, public office staff in Antsiranana have been quick to wear gasy-gasy. Kisaly, salovaña, and lambaony now adorn the offices of institutions in northern Madagascar. "In truth, it's somewhat motivating for us," confirms Amidou Jaonarison, a staff member at the administrative block in Antsiranana. However, others see things differently. Tina Narimanana, for example, expressed his viewpoint: "We tend to turn it into a fashion show every Friday. It's become a competition. Love of country is in the heart, not in clothes." A rather pointed statement from a civil servant, but everyone has their own opinion. Moreover, he is not alone, as an anonymous mother supports: "I don't have a wardrobe. I only have one traditional outfit. Every Friday, my colleagues see me in the same clothes. I'm ashamed." A 14% salary increase could address the clothing needs of public servants!
