Teachers in the spotlight. On September 10 and 11, a pedagogical fair will be held at the Toliara seaside garden, showcasing teaching materials used by educators from the six school districts (CISCO) of the Atsimo Andrefana region. The event is organized by the Atsimo Andrefana Regional Education Directorate and the Regional Center for Pedagogical Training (CRFP). "The creative side of teachers who develop teaching materials will be highlighted. They will also demonstrate how they use these materials to transmit knowledge to students," explains Loria Biscottine, director of the Regional Center for Pedagogical Training in Belomboka, Toliara II. "The fundamental basis of education—teaching students to read and perform calculations—faces difficulties. Workshops will be organized during this fair where the realities experienced by teachers and educational challenges regarding teaching materials will be presented to technical and financial partners in the education sector," she adds. Nationally, 18% of children aged 7 to 14 cannot read and 13% cannot perform calculations. "In the Atsimo Andrefana region, in 2025, only 8.8% of students can read and calculate correctly. Meeting with partners will chart the path toward improved teaching quality," the CRFP director detailed. The pedagogical fair will feature oratory competitions in Malagasy, French, and English.
