Francis Turbo joins comedians for the 6th edition of Jôkôsô Festival du Rire. The 6th edition of Jôkôsô Festival du Rire will take place from September 18-20 in Antananarivo, featuring three days of shows, stand-up performances and meetings dedicated to humor.
Bringing Malagasy comedians together on the same stage while offering audiences a renewed program is the ambition of this 6th edition of Jôkôsô Festival du Rire. From September 18-20, the festival will present multiple events, featuring both recognized figures in comedy and new talents, with the goal of celebrating the work accomplished by artists throughout the year. Participant selection is based on comedians whose performances and works have marked the season. This is not an open call for applications, but a selection made by the festival team, with the objective of presenting artists whose work deserves to be discovered or rediscovered.
This edition is also distinguished by a more limited number of comedians invited on stage. This approach aims to give each performer genuine space for expression while maintaining similar show durations to previous editions.
Visibility
The festival thus seeks to offer more polished performances and continue evolving its format. Ultimately, the goal is to propose concrete shows that can be broadcast on YouTube and various communication platforms, while progressively developing artist visibility.
Jôkôsô's vision is primarily based on bringing together comedy professionals. The festival aims to unite different profiles and reach an increasingly wider audience, with the idea of eventually filling large venues. Diversity is therefore an essential element of the concept: comedians take the stage alongside already-known artists like Francis, Gothlieb and Dadavy, allowing audiences to discover multiple styles, personalities and humor subjects. This alternation also encourages exchanges and collaboration between artists. Themes remain open for now, though organizers are considering dedicating certain editions or segments to specific themes.
The program begins September 18 at 7 p.m. at Tana Water Front with Gothlieb's one-man-show, preceded by an opening act by Iharantsoa. On September 19 at 10 a.m., the Alliance française d'Antananarivo will host a meeting with Francis Turbo about his comedy career. At 3 p.m., Tsiresy Radilofera will present his one-man-show "Maât" at CGM Culture/Goethe-Zentrum Antananarivo, a show addressing existential questions through his perspective and humor.
