A massive fire broke out on Friday, September 4 at Soamanandrariny, sector III, at a sawmill located opposite the General Education College (CEG). The fire, which occurred around 00:30, completely destroyed the wood processing workshop and neighboring homes. Two vehicles were also consumed by the flames. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
Firefighters responded with four fire trucks, supported by local residents and law enforcement led by the local post commander. After more than two hours of effort, the fire was brought under control around 2:30 AM.
In a statement, rescue services indicated that this intervention was part of a series of fires recorded the same day in the capital: thirteen houses burned in Andranomanalina, one car destroyed in Ambondrona, and the Soamanandrariny sawmill, which was particularly difficult to extinguish due to the large quantity of highly flammable wood. Gendarmes are continuing their investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire.
