Ambalatavoahangy Prison: Failed Escape, Inmate Shot Dead, Another Sought
One of the escapees. The morning was eventful yesterday at Ambalatavoahangy Prison in Toamasina. Three inmates attempted to escape from the penitentiary around 7:45 a.m. The operation resulted in the death of one and the flight of another. According to information from the Justice Ministry, the three inmates allegedly took advantage of a ladder belonging to a company currently working on prison renovation projects. They used this equipment to attempt to breach the facility's security systems. However, the attempt did not go unnoticed. An intervention was quickly launched to stop the fugitives. Two of them were recaptured, while the third managed to escape. During the intervention, one inmate was shot in the buttocks. After receiving medical care, his condition could not be saved. He succumbed to his injuries. The second inmate was subdued and brought back under control, according to the Justice Ministry. Meanwhile, search operations continue for the third inmate, who remains at large. A search notice has already been issued for him. This escape attempt comes as renovation work is underway at the prison. The use of a ladder belonging to a company working on the construction site raises questions about access conditions and material control within the penitentiary. The exact circumstances of the escape and any responsibilities must be established by the competent authorities.
