Cattle recovered at Ampasipotsy. The fight against dahalo attacks is intensifying in Tsiroanomandidy district. Within days, four individuals identified as dahalo were fatally struck during two separate confrontations involving the National Gendarmerie and the Malagasy Army respectively. The latest operation occurred during the night of September 3. Three individuals were fatally struck during a confrontation with the Malagasy Army at Ampasipotsy Ambatolahihazo, a rural commune in Maroharona, Tsiroanomandidy district. The incident began when a group of approximately 40 individuals attacked the village at night. The attackers allegedly seized 70 cattle before fleeing. Alerted, military personnel deployed in the area, with support from the fokonolona, immediately set up an interception operation. A pursuit was launched based on intelligence gathered on the ground. The hunt culminated in a violent confrontation between soldiers and attackers. Three group members were fatally struck during the exchange of fire. Their companions managed to escape and are currently being sought. The Malagasy Army operation successfully recovered all 70 cattle taken during the attack. The animals were subsequently returned to their owners. A confrontation with the Gendarmerie. Days earlier, during the night of August 31, another cattle theft attempt was thwarted at Bemasoandro, fokontany Ampamantanantsoa, commune of Anosy. Around 11:30 p.m., village guards spotted five individuals entering the locality from the west. The suspects allegedly used a firearm before attempting to untie a cattle in a yard. An alert was immediately raised. Residents mobilized while National Gendarmerie personnel on patrol at Morafeno were informed of the situation. The five individuals then fled westward. Their flight continued to Antanambao, in the same fokontany, where they encountered the gendarmes. According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the Gendarmerie, who returned fire. An armed confrontation ensued. Following the exchange of fire, one of the five individuals was fatally struck while the other four managed to escape. A makeshift weapon was found at the scene. The targeted cattle was ultimately not taken. No casualties were recorded among residents or gendarmes.
