Electrical cables are regularly targeted by criminal groups operating in the Itasy region. About a week ago, 400 meters of medium-voltage MT cables carrying electricity from Jirama were stolen in the Fokontany of Bemasoandro Arivonimamo, causing power cuts in the area, extending to Soavinandriana and Mananasy. Recently, another MT cable theft was discovered in Itasy. This time, 1,200 meters of MT cables were stolen, cutting off electricity to the areas of Soamahamanina, Miarinarivo, Mandiavato, Ananavory, Ampefy, Soavinandriana and Mananasy. Faced with the persistence of cable thefts, Jirama filed a new complaint against unknown parties and an investigation has been opened. The national electricity and water company is also calling for witnesses, while urging users to immediately inform the competent authorities in case of suspicious activity related to cable thefts. Replacement work on the stolen cables has already begun to restore electricity to households affected by these recent thefts as quickly as possible.
