The first edition of the Gold Fair takes place from September 1-6 in Brieville, in the Betsiboka region. The event showcases the mining potential of the municipality. On the sidelines of this event, a meeting with mayors from the Tsaratanàna district highlighted that Brieville is among the region's main gold production basins, with several thousand artisanal miners and numerous collectors. The municipality aims to make this locality a hub for the gold sector, capable of stimulating the local economy and attracting investors through this event. The fair, featuring various stands, cultural activities and sporting events, sees participation from key sectors such as telecommunications, health and rural microfinance. The general director of Madagascar's Gold Centre (COM) officially opened the event.
Strategy
Formalizing actors through the issuance of artisanal miner and collector cards, as well as granting export licenses, is part of the State's strategy to regulate the sector. The objective is to build a legal value chain, from extraction to export, to ensure the municipality and region receive mining royalties and economic benefits. COM technical officials detailed to elected representatives the procedures for issuing cards, authorized zones and their validity periods. This approach aims to clean up the sector so that local production primarily feeds approved channels.
