MPOX: Madagascar surpasses 3,500 confirmed cases
Madagascar is approaching 3,600 confirmed cases of mpox. According to official statistics, the number of confirmed cases as of September 2 stands at 3,580, out of 5,456 reported cases and 4,980 tests conducted. The latest confirmed cases recorded are from September 2, 2026, totaling 12 cases out of 44 reported cases, all of which have been sampled for analysis. The 12 most recent confirmed cases are located in the districts of Toamasina (8 cases), Sambava (3 cases), and Toliara II (1 case). To date, the number of deaths linked to mpox is 23. The last death was recorded in August 2026. As for recoveries, these currently stand at 2,845. Since mpox appeared in Madagascar, 76 districts across the country have been affected by the epidemic, while the number of active districts currently stands at 27.
