A new armed attack has reignited security concerns in the capital. A butcher was assaulted early morning on September 3 in Anosizato-Andrefana while heading to the slaughterhouse. According to initial reports, three attackers fled with approximately 18 million ariary.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when three individuals targeted a man going to collect meat at the Anosizato-Andrefana slaughterhouse. The attack took place on a dark stretch of road, about 70 meters from a Gendarmerie fixed post, even as traffic was already intensifying in the area. Caught off guard, the butcher attempted to resist his attackers. A struggle ensued during which he sustained minor facial injuries. The three assailants managed to seize his bag containing nearly 18 million ariary before fleeing.

The exact circumstances remain unclear. According to the Anosizato-Andrefana post commander, the victim indicated the attackers were armed with knives. Firearm use has not yet been confirmed. However, nearby residents claim to have heard three detonations accompanied by flashes resembling firecracker explosions. These details will need verification through investigation to determine the exact nature of weapons used.

Faced with the violence, bystanders did not intervene while the attackers remained present. Only after their escape could the victim seek help.

About an hour passed before the butcher reached the Gendarmerie post. He explained he first fled and found shelter before reporting to authorities approximately one hour later. An investigation has been opened to locate the three individuals and clarify the attack.
