The Bevoay intake has been desanded and operational since August 25th. The Bevoay intake was desanded again to allow irrigation of part of the plain covering 8,000 hectares. Regularly facing water flow and supply problems, the Mangoky plain undergoes regular maintenance aimed at keeping the four gates of the Bevoay intake functioning and desanding several kilometers of canals. Following last July's maintenance, which forced users to cut off water flow, three of the four gates are now operational and canals have been desanded. Since August 25th, a flow rate of 40 m³ of water per second allows irrigation of the 8,000 hectares currently being redeveloped. "These improvement works ensure a second growing season for Bas Mangoky farmers, who for years could only rely on one season due to irrigation problems," explains Luc Findrama, regional director of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty for Atsimo Andrefana. Beyond water issues, land ownership conflicts remain unresolved. Following land parceling initiated by the State in 2023, the identity of true owners and actual shared plots remain unclear. "We ask the State to seriously address the land ownership issue that concerns us. Some individuals claim to be owners while others who have worked the land for years claim the same.
