Since 2022, the Alifasa project has become a cultural breath of fresh air in Antsiranana. Every year, during school holidays, the Alliance française de Diego and AJFACE open their doors to teenage girls aged 10 to 17, offering them three weeks to immerse themselves in audiovisual and cinema. It is not merely a technical initiation. It is an experience that transforms. Participants learn to write a screenplay, pitch their ideas, work with image and sound, and assemble their creations through editing. This year, graphic design was added to the program, expanding possibilities even further. Guided by Firoza Hussen, Tessa Ratovonar, Medalys Anjarasoa, Arilala Ophélia and Sylvia Razafison, they discover that behind every film lies a creative mechanism they can master themselves. The fifth edition in August 2026 concluded with the screening of the short film Les Rêves de Harena on August 22. The emotion in the room was palpable: these young girls had just proven they could tell their own stories, bring their imagination to life and create new narratives. In four years, 54 participants have already taken this step, and their creations earned the Alliance française de Diego the RFI Best Mini-Report Prize 2026. Alifasa is far more than a workshop. It is a manifesto. It affirms that careers in culture are accessible to women, that they can break taboos and open new horizons. It reminds us that creativity knows no borders and that young Malagasy women have powerful voices to be heard.
