BISHKEK, August 30 (Xinhua) — Sino-Kyrgyz cooperation has entered a "golden period" of rapid development, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared on Sunday upon his arrival in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek to attend the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and make a state visit to Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and his wife welcomed Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, at Manas International Airport. In a written address, Xi conveyed, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, sincere greetings and best wishes to Japarov and the Kyrgyz people. Emphasizing that China and Kyrgyzstan maintained a centuries-old traditional friendship, Xi stated that the majestic Tianshan Mountains were witnesses to the millennia-long friendly exchanges between the two peoples. Over the 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Sino-Kyrgyz ties have weathered the trials of a changing international landscape, developed in a healthy and stable manner throughout this period, and reached a high level of comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era. In recent years, bilateral trade volume and people-to-people exchanges have reached new heights, Xi noted. He remarked that major projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, had been completed, and that concrete results of mutually beneficial cooperation had widely benefited both peoples. During his visit, Xi said he would have in-depth exchanges with Japarov on Sino-Kyrgyz relations, bilateral cooperation in various fields, as well as international and regional issues of common interest, to chart a new roadmap for building a China-Kyrgyzstan community of shared future. "I look forward to attending the SCO summit in Bishkek, working with all parties to review the SCO's 25 years of development experience, jointly examine cooperation plans, chart the organization's future, and continuously promote its new development," Xi concluded.
