Three people were injured and two public transport vehicles severely damaged in a collision that occurred Friday evening on RIP 13, at a location called Sinoa Avarabohitra, in the commune of Andranonahoatra. Drunk driving, excessive speed, and inattention were among the causes identified in initial reports. The accident happened on Friday, August 28, 2026, around 7:30 p.m. at Sinoa Avarabohitra, fokontany of Avarabohitra, commune of Andranonahoatra, in Antsimondrano district. Two Sprinter minibuses traveling in opposite directions collided on RIP 13, a road connecting Andranonahoatra and Ampitatafika. According to initial findings, both vehicles were traveling at high speed when they crossed paths. One vehicle, coming from Antanimenakely heading toward Andranonahoatra, allegedly drifted into the left lane. The second vehicle, traveling from Andranonahoatra toward Ampitatafika, attempted to avoid it. However, the speed of both vehicles prevented collision avoidance. The impact was particularly violent, causing significant damage to the front sections of both vehicles. Three passengers from the line D Sprinter were injured. Victims were quickly treated and evacuated to a medical facility. They sustained various injuries: a 75-year-old woman suffered a mouth wound, a 25-year-old passenger sustained a minor left-side injury, and a 26-year-old man suffered a left leg wound. Three gendarmes from the Ambohimamory zana-tobim-paritra immediately responded to the scene. They conducted investigations, provided assistance to the injured, and regulated traffic to prevent congestion. Investigations revealed that the driver of the line D Sprinter connecting Tana to Ivato was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Drunk driving, combined with excessive speed and lack of caution, are being examined as contributing factors. Both drivers were placed under surveillance and the damaged vehicles were towed to the impound. Reports were submitted to relevant supervisors, and road safety awareness was conducted at the scene, particularly regarding dangers of speeding and drunk driving. The Ambohimamory zana-tobim-paritra is conducting the investigation to determine the precise circumstances and responsibilities in this accident.
