At Madagascar National Parks headquarters in Ambatobe, a symbolic ceremony marked the handover of new personal protective equipment for forest and bush fire brigades yesterday. The result of a partnership established in 2024 with the Association Baroudeur Massilia Pompier du Monde (France), this allocation demonstrates the shared commitment to protect those who defend our forests daily. In Madagascar, deforestation, droughts, and human pressure weaken already vulnerable ecosystems, multiplying fire outbreaks in protected areas. Facing this challenge, MNP has implemented a strategy focused on training and equipping its teams. "Protecting protected areas also means protecting those who defend them," said Aro Rajaonarivo, operations director, emphasizing the importance of these PPE compliant with ISO 45 001 standards. Helmets, uniforms, shoes, masks, and suits: in total, 834 pieces of equipment were distributed across 11 priority sites. For agents, these tools change everything: fewer risks, greater safety, and better efficiency during emergency interventions. This action, made possible through state support via the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, is part of the National Strategy for Risk and Disaster Management. "These equipment protect our agents' lives and strengthen the response capacity of protected area managers nationwide," said Tojotsara Ratefason, director of protected areas at MEDD. A strong gesture illustrating international solidarity and national commitment to sustainably preserve Madagascar's forests.
