A victim of fraud in Ampasika, an 18-year-old taxi-bicycle driver, attempted to take his own life after losing his primary work tool. Quick intervention by the national police allowed them to rescue him and ensure his safety. The incident occurred on August 27, 2026 in Ampasika, in the fourth district of Antananarivo. The young man was reportedly approached by individuals who proposed an enticing exchange: his bicycle for a stone presented as precious. Believing he was making a good deal, he accepted the transaction. However, after receiving the bicycle, the individuals fled. Upon examining the stone he received, the young driver quickly discovered it was a fake precious stone. Stripped of his means of livelihood and deeply affected by this fraud, the young man reportedly fell into profound distress, even attempting to take his own life. His concerning behavior alerted those present, who quickly called for police intervention. Alerted in time, traffic police officers immediately responded. Noting the young man's vulnerable state, they took necessary measures to protect him and prevent the worst. He was then taken to the police service responsible for protecting minors and vulnerable persons at the central police station in Tsaralalàna, to receive appropriate support. The national police also contacted his family. Meanwhile, investigations continue to identify and locate the alleged perpetrators of this fraud. This intervention once again highlights the role of the national police in protecting vulnerable persons, beyond its traditional duties of maintaining order and combating crime. The vigilance of witnesses and their swift reaction were also crucial in preventing a tragic outcome.
