Local stakeholders exchange on prospects for reviving tourism in Sainte-Marie. Sainte-Marie is banking on several levers to restart its tourism sector. The resumption of regional air links, simplification of procedures and improvement of infrastructure are among the main expectations expressed by local actors. Tourism occupied an important place during the meeting between the President of the Refondation, Colonel Randrianirina Michaël, and representatives of Sainte-Marie's key stakeholders. Arriving Thursday evening on the island, the President exchanged with local actors on ways to revitalize tourism activity. The resumption of air links to Mauritius and Réunion is one of the main demands. Interrupted after the Covid-19 pandemic, these flights facilitated exchanges between Sainte-Marie and other Indian Ocean destinations. Their restoration could encourage tourist arrivals and support the activities of hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and other operators. "The resumption of these links will be studied, as was done for the restoration of flights connecting Madagascar to the Comoros," the President declared. Professionals also want a simpler regulatory framework. Certain complex procedures can slow down investments and hinder the realization of new tourism projects. Improvement of infrastructure is finally another major issue. Beaches, biodiversity, nature and cultural heritage represent important assets for the island. The Tsôlabe Festival, scheduled to start this Friday, should also help promote Sainte-Marie and strengthen its appeal to visitors.
