Youth empowerment in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), or "Youth Empowerment in the Era of AI", was the theme of an international talk-show organized by Swiss German University, a private university based in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday. Discussions focused on the role and responsibility of young people in a world profoundly transformed by AI. The meeting brought together, in bilingual format, several speakers around the challenges facing the new generation in a global environment marked by uncertainty. Retired General Richard Rakotonirina, former Minister of National Defense, was one of the main speakers. Former Minister Rakotonirina provided a strategic reading of ongoing changes. The purpose of the exchanges was to define a path on "how to train young people capable of inhabiting a world that institutions, skills and sometimes imagination can no longer keep up with". The retired general officer thus reflected on the evolution of the global context. The world described during the conference would no longer be merely "VUCA", that is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. It has become "BANI", an environment characterized by the fragility of systems, anxiety, non-linearity and incomprehensibility or "brittle, anxious, nonlinear, incomprehensible", a context in which young people must learn to evolve without necessarily having stable reference points. Artificial intelligence now occupies a central place in this transformation. Presented as far more than a simple technological tool, AI has also become a matter of power and competition, according to the explanations. The conference notably addressed its effects on the world of work, with the automation of certain activities and the prospect of a profound transformation of jobs, including certain functions related to judgment.
