A young woman lost her life in Tanjombato after being pushed into the river by thieves whom she attempted to resist. The National Police have launched an investigation. Tragedy struck yesterday morning around 7:15 a.m. when a crowd gathered on the railway bridge at Ambohimanatrika, in the commune of Tanjombato. Residents, alerted by rescue workers, witnessed the recovery of a young woman's body found lifeless in the waters of the Ikopa River. On site, firefighters from a nearby station attempted to retrieve the victim, lying on wet ground, wearing light-colored pants with vertical stripes, a dark top, and dark shoes—simple everyday clothing. The crowd pressed around them. The deceased was identified as approximately 22 years old, originally from Faratsiho but employed in the capital. She was accompanied by her 15-year-old sister. Both worked together in Itaosy. According to initial reports from authorities present, the young woman was allegedly attacked the previous evening around 8:30 p.m. by robbers while she and her sister were walking across the bridge. Dangerous neighborhood. She reportedly resisted having her phone snatched and pursued the criminals before being thrown into the river. Her body was recovered yesterday morning by Tanjombato diving firefighters near the Saropody neighborhood. Local residents confirm this account. One resident recounted: "The thieves pulled at the phone she was holding. She refused to let it go and resisted, which ended with her being pushed into the water." Another added: "This neighborhood is dangerous; there are often distress calls on this section of railway track." After the body was recovered, 100,000 ariary was found in the victim's pocket and handed to a relative living in Paraky Soanierana. Scientific and technical police arrived to conduct examinations and open an investigation. Residents denounce the persistent insecurity in this sector and regret the lack of responsiveness from authorities, with some claiming that a team dispatched after the initial alert had left the scene for another intervention.
