"Remove the land official Ludovic and Christian BIF from Toamasina II now, give us the zone according to decree 74-021 on 'Abuse of Property', remove the mayor who is taking our land, and remove the mayor who is harassing and intimidating us and reaching even to the graves." These were the demands voiced by numerous residents of Ambalamanasy yesterday during a street march they organized, blocking the entrance to the suburban commune of Toamasina II. According to these residents who protested, they can no longer tolerate the seizure of their land piece by piece, and not only that, but the residents themselves are being pursued by the land official and his team along with gendarmes and police whenever they move. They say that these officials came to Ambalamanasy to take their land and place boundary markers on their property at night, as one man recounted seeing many vehicles there on the 3rd at 3 in the morning placing markers. This protest by Ambalamanasy residents was also joined by the GSM association or "Gasy Sahy Manova" signed by its leader. The situation continued with the street blockade, with the residents and their representatives not receiving any response from the land official and his team. The numerous residents then took the direct route through Ambohijafy – Valpinson – Ankirihiry – and Mangarivotra. By Didier
