On August 20 and 21, 2026, the Platform of Civil Society Organizations on Extractive Industries in Madagascar (OSCIE) will organize the National Assembly of civil society organizations on the extractive sector at La Résidence hotel in Ankerana. Representatives from civil society organizations across Madagascar's 24 regions will participate in this meeting, alongside experts and stakeholders working in extractive resources, environment, land rights, human rights, and transparency. Governance These assemblies will focus on dialogue, consultation, and reflection on the governance of mining, oil, and gas resources. Discussions will address their contribution to the country's economic and social development, as well as their impacts on populations and the environment. Civil society also intends to share its analyses and formulate proposals for better governance of the extractive sector, respecting the environment and human rights. Participants must also develop a vision that considers the interests of future generations. Proposals from these assemblies will be documented in a "white paper" by civil society organizations. The objective is to strengthen civil society's role as a force for proposing solutions on extractive resource management issues in Madagascar.
